3 Is A Magic Number: It’s Just About… Life.

Not a bad blog for a Friday I figured, especially if you are lucky enough to be enjoying a 3 day weekend :).

So there was that book some years ago called, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. For me and for plenty of people I know, we also learned a ton from those educational spots called Schoolhouse Rock!, the 3 minute shorts which aired on Saturdays in between the morning cartoons. Even my kids know about it because we bought the sucker on a DVD about 10 years back and they learned some of the tunes. Heck, I can still recite the Preamble to the Constitution from memory, only because I learned it in a Schoolhouse Rock song! And come to find out, as I did a little digging, the short, “3 Is a Magic Number”, which was the pilot episode for the entire series, was created by some guy who realized his son knew every Beatles lyric, but could not remember his multiplication tables.

As I look for deeper meaning in growth and self-improvement, that song popped into my head the other day.
“The past the present and the future, faith and hope and charity, the heart and the brain and the body, give you 3, as a magic number.”
If 7 is a lucky number, how does 3 get to be magic? What’s crazy is I never stopped to think about it before, but the number 3 has plenty of significance. Everything from counting to three before you snap that picture, or counting down from three before you start the race, to three wise men, to a three-ring circus, to three sheets to the wind… well you get the point. The point is, 3 has plenty of meaning, especially as you venture into a journey of living your best year ever.

I have 3 banner goals for the year… and am told that if you have more than 3 big goals, you probably don’t have any, because the time and attention paid to just those three is quite enough, if you want to fulfill them. As I look down at the ticker I’m up to just over 300 words at this point in this blog, and if takes more than 3 minutes to read this thing, it’s probably over… no matter how good the content might be 😉

Good things come in 3’s. Nothing like a good trilogy to round things out, or how about those 3 medals you can win at the Olympics, or those 3 networks we used to watch on TV. I just made the mistake of Googling things that come in 3’s, now I’m 3 times as tired as when I started.

To put three in perspective though, a little later today I will sit down with 3 other people to share each of our big goals and dreams for our present and our future. The opportunity to share, to be enlightened and to talk about purpose and our why, will lead to some life-changing perceptions and perspective. It will mean 3 times the power to help live out our dreams.

And then there’s the big 3, the biggest 3 of all. The people I share my life with each and every day, my wife Debbie, my daughters, Sophie and Emily. Those 3 own my heart and the very depths of my soul. They have turned magic… into miracles.

Now that’s what I call a magic number.
