Ahh, Java: It’s Just About… Life.

IF water is life’s sweet nectar, then coffee is the golden juice. Take a sip, life is good.

In fact, its so good sometimes it’s hard to wait. You walk by the coffee pot, (or at our house the Keurig), in the evening and dream of the warm aroma and taste which will awaken all your senses in the morning. It’s really all about the first sip.

Tired? Once the first hot, amazingly delicious taste hits my tongue and heads down through my body… not any more. I’ve heard that coffee can get into your bloodstream in ten seconds. I believe it, urban legend or not, because I can feel it. Life is transformed. Just ask my wife. Our routine is for me to bring her that over-heated cup every morning and place it on her night table next to the bed, just after she awakens. If she gets up earlier than I expected, my cell phone buzzes, with a text, requesting her morning jolt.

I don’t think I have ever written a blog in the early AM without the cup o’ joe brewing first. Besides, it’s also the time I take a minute to reflect on the day before and think about gratitude and the three things for which I am grateful for from the previous day. You can always find at least three. I do that then take the first swig. Now it’s all good.

I know people who keep the joe flowing, five or six cups of the strong stuff to get them through the work day. For me that’s a little much, with that level of caffeine in my body I am doing laps outside my office and operating at lightning speed, slowed only by the constant bathroom breaks. Too much of a good thing. Besides, then my morning cup, or maybe just one more during the day, just isn’t so special anymore.

Some people juice it to get going in the morning. Whatever works, different strokes for different folks. But give me that cup of coffee and I’m good to go, in more ways than one. 🙂

In fact… it’s time.

So until next time, thanks for taking the time.

  1. Mark, I sooooo agree: it’s that first cup; that first sip. And it must be truly GOOD coffee; strong, full-bodied. Yeah!!!
