Born to Run, 2014: It’s Just About… Life.

born to run
“Someday girl I don’t know when we’re gonna get to that place where we really wanna go and we’ll walk in the sun. But til then tramps like us, baby we were born to run.”
– Bruce Springsteen, Born To Run

As 2013 came to a close, if you took the time to think about all you were grateful for and all you accomplished last year, then it’s easy to move forward with clarity and a great feeling of abundance,(https://markbrodinsky.com/2013/12/31/new-year-not-until-you-look-back-its-just-about-life/). If you haven’t done it, there’s still time, there’s always time, because time is what you make of it instead of what you let it make of you.

But the clock is ticking, since it’s now 2014. Let’s face it, January 2nd is really the beginning of a new year, since the first day is a holiday for many and one last chance to chill before it’s time to get up and get going.

So where do you want to go? And how are you going to get there? It’s not as difficult as you think, nor as overwhelming, though it might seem to be sometimes. If you took the time to look back and survey all the blessings of 2013, many of which YOU made happen, then you know what you did right and what still needs work. Like my friend Rob Commodari says, “if you’re not growing, you’re dying.” No one wants that and everyone can get better at something!

So make it easy, set some goals, NOT resolutions. Resolutions are society’s easy way out. Say it once, think it or maybe even write it down, then stick it in a drawer and pull it out at the end of the year and say, “oops, guess I didn’t do it, I’ll think of some more meaningless ones for 2015.” You are better than that and you deserve more. So go for some goals. Think of just three. I say this time and time again… three is a magic number.

If you have more than three goals, you probably have none. Three is plenty to shoot for in 2014. But you must not just think it, ink it. Write them down and then also write down a plan to get there. It takes a little time, but if you knew you could spend just a few hours doing something that could improve your year, your future, your life dramatically, wouldn’t you make the investment. If you could get healthier not just in body, but in mind, spirit, financially, in your relationships, at work, in your business, with your friends, or in the steps toward your dream, wouldn’t you make the investment of time? I hope so.

I’ve already done part of this, took a look at three things I will accomplish in 2014. And I’m working on a plan to get there. A plan I can track and modify as events warrant, as life changes, as obstacles get in my way and as I find a way to overcome. With most people, and I bet with you too, the goals will touch on a few areas of life, health, wealth and family/love. These things are important to most, but most don’t make them important enough to affect change. So do it. Write it down and keep it private, only share it with a few people. If you notice, I don’t write mine down here, because the whole world doesn’t need to know, except for a few people who can hold me accountable. And that’s important, try to find someone, or just a few people to help you stay on track. But keep your big goals close to the vest, because they are near and dear to your heart. That’s what makes goals different from resolutions. Everyone shares their New Year’s Resolutions…because they know they will never keep them and they don’t care!!

Goals are different, real goals matter, because you matter and your life matters and getting better matters. It should. Go after your goals and work toward your dream as if your life depends on it. Because it does. And not just your life, but the lives of others because their lives will improve as yours does. It’s just the way it works, and in the end isn’t that what it’s all about? Brendon Burchard, author of the Millionaire Messenger, says don’t wait until the end of life to ask yourself these three questions: “Did I live fully? Did I love openly? Did I matter?” Look at yourself and ask those three questions NOW.

Singer/songrwriter/legend Bruce Springsteen echoes the same message at the beginning of this blog, if you want to get to that place where you really wanna go and walk in the sun… then baby, you were born to run. Start today, get up, get going and start running toward a better you. The new year, the people you love, this world, your life is waiting.

Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
