Since posting the Sunday Series and sharing the story about Debbie Fink Green and her battle against appendiceal cancer and pending surgery, I have re-learned a great deal. People care, want to support others and are rooting for you every step of the way. Thousands are watching and waiting for the outcome, the latest update I can share is from Debbie’s stepmom Becky, who was kind enough to send me a Facebook message at 6:45am, just to say Debbie’s surgery was nearly 17 hours long. She has come through, but little else is known right now.
Courage and hope. Two words which resonate right at this moment. The courageous battle of a warrior against cancer and the hope of all those rooting for her to come through. I saw this up-close and personal when my wife Debbie, our family and friends dealt with the challenge of her breast cancer. But prognosis was good, my wife elected aggressive treatment and as long as all was contained and localized, Debbie’s chances for the best outcome were very good. We were lucky. Debbie Fink’s story is different, as is every other story dealing with cancer, or any other illness. We are all different and so why wouldn’t every script being written follow its own unique storyline.
Cancer affects everyone, not just the victim. Family members, friends and those who become social media friends or followers, wanting to know the story and each chapter as it is written. It was the main reason I turned our journey into a book, one which had a positive ending, and still does.
So we watch and wait. I also learned her husband David has a tumblr blog, one which is open and honest about dealing with cancer and its consequences, while you wait for more details its worth the read:

Since there is no further update as of this posting at 7:05 am, I will leave you with something I found, quite unexpectedly, as I turned through the pages of a prayer book at a recent bar mitzvah in Pittsburgh. As I turned to one of the prayers there was a sticky note! It was such a surprise to find a random hand written message attached to one of the pages, I pulled it off and took it with me. I still have it sitting on my desk. The message reads: “may all of us, the sick and the well together, find courage & hope.”
Enough said.
