You can’t get here from there without a plan.
Want to go from one coast to the other? You better map out the way. Want to see the sunrise on one coast and the sunset on the other… you had better work your butt off to get the opportunity to enjoy both.
Only in America.
The video clip on Facebook which accompanies this blog is a simple :30 seconds from last night’s performance of West Side Story at Calvert Hall Theatre in Baltimore County, Maryland. And yes, that’s my daughter Sophie I am featuring on the left side of the screen dancing up on stage.
I’m not an Entertainment reviewer and I wouldn’t be qualified to do so anyway, since my daughter is in this show, but I can only say from a parents’ perspective, it was a phenomenal performance and one I am proud my daughter is getting the chance to participate in and giving it all she’s got.
My point with this very short blog is to simply applaud, (a standing O), and acknowledge the hard work these kids have put in over the past three months. As a matter of fact, it’s hard to believe, in the span of only three months of rehearsals, they could pull off what they showed us on Opening Night.
I applaud Mrs. B., (Jillian Bauersfeld), for getting these kids into a cohesive unit, with managing the multiple personalities and talents and somehow finding a way to get them all dancing in sync. The opening performance was full of dazzling ensemble dancing and perfect pitch singing – especially by the main characters, John Endres (Tony) and Lillian Blank (Maria), two performers who seemed to work in perfect harmony.
Anyway, I digress and I’m gushing as any parent would when they see their little girl up there doing things I’ve never seen her do before. Knew Sophie had it in her – but to see it brought to light is a bright light in and of itself.
Thanks Sophie for the inspiration and for continuing to shine. Thanks to everyone on that stage and behind the scenes who worked from sunrise to sunset to get this performance down to a science.
Going from an idea in someone’s mind and on paper – to a live, physical representation doesn’t happen by accident -you need the map created by your talented director, the performers ready to receive that instruction and guidance who then let their talents and gifts shine through – and the energy and magic which comes from synergy and pure sweat equity.
Like going from East to West – West Side Story that is – glad everyone enjoyed the ride. Bravo!
Until next time thanks for taking the time,
Mark
