Forgive: It’s Just About… Life.

girl with flowerIt is in all of us. Right behind our greatest gift, the power to love, is the power to forgive.

The human heart is a fragile thing, love shores it up, but hatred and revenge break it down. Sometimes our incredible, supposedly sensible minds get in the way and make us forget we possess the beauty to give a gift, forgiveness.

It doesn’t matter to me what religion you are, what race you are, or even what you believe in. What does matter to me is you know you have the power. In the jewish religion yesterday was the Day of Atonement, to recognize what you have done to others, and what others may have done to you. Then to say some powerful words: “I am sorry” & “I forgive you.”

And no, this blog is not about some religious lesson, I simply share moments, observations of life in the pursuit of becoming more, by helping others do the same. If I see it, I share it and hope the words inspire, educate and resonate. In essence, it’s all about the power of words. If you don’t believe me, consider these words and give them some thought:
“All year long we have been making choices. We made many choices, but not every choice was a good one. At times, we said the wrong thing. We did not mean for our words to hurt, but they hurt nonetheless. At times, we even spoke words in anger. Perhaps we wanted to take those words back. But, once we had spoken them, they could not be changed.”

Don’t let that happen to you.

I remember right before I got married, a co-worker told me the three most important words I would need to learn, “I am sorry.” 🙂 Maybe that’s true, maybe not. I do believe the three words I need to say most often and to hear most often, are “I love you.” Those words don’t mean I am perfect, but they perfectly fill my heart. I am far from perfect, and others are too, we are humans, we are flawed and we don’t always do the right thing, or say the right words. So just beyond I love you, the three words I want to hear and I need to say…”I forgive you.”

The power of words. Say them, write them, feel them. Don’t let someone get to the end of life, or you to do the same and realize you gave up the power to love, to repent…and to forgive.

Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
