Stare Down Any Demon: It’s Just About… Life

We all have them, and it’s not always easy to fight them off, but I believe in my heart of hearts you can, each and every day with the right weapon. The weapon is what you do with your time and what you feed your mind.

It’s hard to be in a low place, to take your mind to the deepest depths if you feed it the right food. Listening to, (or reading), some good advice from other people, most of them ordinary people, who just happen to do extraordinary things, is a good place to start.  Ultimately you might need a little help from these “friends”, and they are easy to find. You can find them in the books you read, in the lessons you listen to, in the videos you watch — and it is of vital importance in your life, if you desire to live a life of purpose, in service to others and ultimately be remembered for being significant.

This week I listened to an interview with Bill McDermott on Darren Hardy’s SUCCESS CD. Bill is  Chief Executive Officer of SAP, the world’s business software market leader. How did SAP get there? Simple. Under Bill’s leadership SAP unveiled a strategy to help businesses of all sizes simplify everything.

And in this interview Bill gave advice he has learned from his own journey which I am sharing here.  Read this and then stare down your own demons today:

Be a person in service to other people. If you can take the pressure off of yourself and what’s in it for you and what you want to extract from this world you will make a difference. Simply get a head set that is all based upon what you can give to this world and what you can do to help other people, it releases all that self-inflicted pressure that people walk around with each and every day. You become a person that understands the true measure of a human is not what they take from this world, but it’s what they give back to this world, and in that spirit I think you can stare down any demon.

The peace is don’t be so hard on yourself there are really great things about you. Everyone has their sweet blemish of innocence, everyone has that unique sense of magic, everyone has that DNA strain that’s unique to them. I constantly remind people to focus on the things that you’re really good at and be proud of that and start to work on those rough edges kind of in the background, but don’t let that supercede your strengths because that ultimately will be the differentiator that makes you happy, successful and a complete person.

Of course we’re never done fixing up the things that are wrong about us because nobody’s perfect.  But I would say you’re more perfect than you think and be proud of what you are and where you come from and carry it with you like a badge of honor and with the attitude that you can be a winner and you can achieve your dreams if only you commit yourself to them. I think winners can dream, I think winners should dream and I think winners will dream and they will win and I absolutely believe you have to put the dream first because once you focus on the dream, the ultimate destination, then the journey truly can start to work for you and ultimately be your reward.”

No more demons. Focus on the dream. And grab a little help from your friends.

Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
