It ain’t easy, but it ain’t over.
Anything worth doing, worth accomplishing, worth fighting for is rarely easy. Some might look at the difficult situation and say the following:
“It’s never been done before.”
“There’s just no way.”
“It’s destiny, you can’t change it.”
“It’s impossible.”
Yet ordinary people do extraordinary things all the time. Electricity. Automobiles. A cure for polio. The 4-minute mile.
So many said it was just too hard, it couldn’t be done, others had tried and failed, so why even give it a shot?
“Just give up.”
So then what’s the point. If it was a foregone conclusion, why even try? You know why? Because it’s not. It’s why we live life. It’s why we play the game, for the chance to do something extraordinary, something which has never been done before.
The Orioles are down 0-2 in the ALCS, after dropping the first two games at home. The road team, after going up 2-0 has never failed to make it to the World Series. There’s no way the Orioles can come back.
Never say never. It’s only never been done before, doesn’t mean it won’t.
Last night my family and I traveled to the Ronald McDonald House for activity hour, a chance to interact and connect with the children and families living in the temporary home, as the kids go through treatments at local hospitals. Do you think a few of these families, with children facing possibly life-long physical challenges, or critical illnesses, have heard words like, “it’s never been done before”, “there’s just no way”, “you can’t”, “you won’t”. Maybe. And just maybe they are fighting long odds, or fighting against all odds. But they do fight, because they believe, and because the human experience will frequently take you to places you never thought you could go and do things other people thought were impossible. Only impossible, because they were never faced with the challenge, or couldn’t find the will to fight.
There can always be a first time, just like my daughters and a young girl staying at RMH sang about last night. Just click on the link below:
The first time in forever. There’s always a chance.
Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
