I wanted to share the latest updates, two e-mails I received yesterday from Dave Green, the husband of Debbie Fink Green and her biggest cheerleader:
(E-mail in late morning)
“I saw your updated blog and wanted to touch base with you to let you know Sal (what Dave calls Debbie) is doing great. She has been moved into a private room, and is slooooowly coming around. Today is the first day of the rest of her life and it’s a pretty great day.
I appreciate you mentioning my blog, as it has been a very cathartic outlet for me. I am a fairly private person, and was tentative to share my raw thoughts and emotions, but I feel opening the kimono a bit could help not just me, but others to know it’s okay to not always be as strong as expected.
Many thanks again for sharing Sal’s story. It’s been quite an interesting two years to say the least, and while we certainly didn’t expect to be on this path, it’s the one we’re on and it’s our job to enjoy it together the best we can.”
(E-mail from late last night)
“Today has been a good day: she took 10 steps and is starting to come out of the anesthetic fog. She’s in some pain, but it is being managed well.
I have to tell you I am absolutely blown away by the support and outpouring of love from your readers. It’s overwhelming (in the best possible way) to feel the compassion of strangers, and I can feel it working: I noticed I was smiling more today and saying hello to both the staff and strangers in the hallways here at MD Anderson.”
As I complete this trilogy of blogs about Debbie Fink’s courageous battle, I encourage you to continue to follow her progress: on Dave’s Blog: (http://srpmitm.tumblr.com/?og=1), on the Caringbridge site, as it is updated: (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/debbiefinkgreen) and when Debbie starts her blog again and hopefully Huffington Post continues to support her: (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/debbie-fink/).
And let me tell you the last line of Dave’s e-mail is all about you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks to the thousands of you who have reached out to Debbie and her family to share support, love, prayers and gratitude. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of this blog and there could not have been a stronger way to wrap up year one. It’s humbling, overwhelming and on track with the mission I am trying to accomplish here: to become more and help others to do the same.
Your love and support are more than I could have ever imagined, for the people I write about, for the messages, moments and stories I share, for the gift of being able to share my heart with the world and have it matter because you choose to pay attention. Together, we are making a difference and creating a legacy.
Until next time, thanks for taking the time.
