Justin Moore wrote those lyrics for his song Til My Last Day, and for a few hundred years now, thousands of men and women have lived the words. They have made the ultimate sacrifice, willing to give their lives for something they love, something they believe in. For love of country, for love of family, for love of freedom. They have lived, fought and died for you, for me, for all eternity.
It’s that simple. From the battle for independence to the fight against terrorism, and the dozens of wars in between, every single man and woman, a hero. Many times their last breath was exhaled on the field of battle, in a fight to make sure you and I continue to enjoy the freedom we do today. So much is possible, because so many times what seemed impossible, they accomplished. From beating back the British to gain our sovereignty, to storming the beaches of Normandy on their way to defeating the Axis and some of the greatest atrocities the world has ever known.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The beginning of the Declaration of Independence and since it’s writing, so many have defended its doctrine, defended the freedom which too many times we take for granted.
Today we pause to remember those we should take the time to think about each and every day, because without their sacrifice, something as simple as the writing and reading of this blog would cease to exist. Who knows where we would be without our brave brothers and sisters who have helped shape our destiny and defend our very way of life. On this day, Memorial Day, it is our duty to honor their lives, and to appreciate all they have done and continue to do each and every day, in more than 100 countries all over the world.
At 3pm today, the National Moment of Remembrance, in respect and reverence of our military heroes. We are forever in your debt. We are forever grateful. You are forever in our hearts and in those of our children who owe you the same debt and depth of gratitude.
To our Armed Forces, past, present and future. Thank you. We owe you the world.
